Morning Pond Fishing

Rebel our Bernese wanted to go fishing, so we took him. I think a dog's favorite thing in life is to stick his head out of a truck window at 50 mph.

Mark is eligible to take his drivers licence test this upcoming Friday, so he's been getting in a lot of extra driving on his learners permit. He'll take the test in my wife's Toyota Rav-4 because it's the smallest car we have for parallel parking, versus our Toyota Tundra.

We purchased worms from Dick's last week and keep them in the garage refrigerator for emergency fishing. Worms can keep for nearly two months if you occasionally mist the soil to keep it moist (don't let it desiccate). The worms keep my youngest son Jeb content when fishing, because they always seem to catch fish, where artificial's may not.

Check out the size of this bluegill, its substantially larger than my hand.

I caught this bronco slab using a wooden bobber that you can throw a country mile. I was given the bobber from Steve Kolbe who brought them from Clyde's Bait Shop in Lansdowne, who is the only source that Steve is aware of. Next time I go to Clyde's, I'm going to pick up a dozen. Great for kids.

Mark and I probably caught 20 fish each, until we ran out of bait. Lots of bluegill and bass (in the one-pound class).

The biggest fish on the day came as Mark threw a worm into the center of a patch of water lily.

We both thought that the fish-bite was on, with fish being in an aggressive feeding mode.

Many fish were in the warm shallows, hunting for a meal. The morning was cold in the shade, but warm in the sun. Much of Howard County has already seen at least one frost, and the trees are turning, with peak colors probably next weekend.
