2008 MD DNR FISHING CHALLENGE
Sandy Point State Park
Maryland
Dan Betz and I both caught
'Citation' bass this year and were invited to
the 2008 Maryland Fishing
Challenge at Sandy Point State Park.
Approximately 900 of 1200 people who
caught
'Citation' fresh and/or
salt water fish in the state of Maryland during
2008 were eligible to
enter the contest.
The first place winner takes home a 2008 Toyota Tundra and second
place wins a
2008 Nitro Z-7 Bass Boat, so with odds that good you
could see why 900 eligible
contestants showed up.
Scales & Tails, redtail hawk.
Scales &Tails, long-eared owl.
Here's the grand prize.
Here's second place.
Martin O'Malley and DNR Director Eric Schwab drew the names
from the tumbler,
and we were waiting to hear Dan Betz or
Mark Burchick.
It was not our day.
Five citation fishermen were selected and each stood behind a tackle box,
labeled #1 through #5. The #1 box won the bass boat.
The #3 box won the Toyota Tundra.
The only stipulation to the contest was that the eligible contestant had
to be
present to participate. Needless to say with odds of 900 to 1 it
was worth
the half day to visit Sandy Point.
