SUNDAY AFTERNOON FISHING
in Maryland / March 2008
 |
Jeb and I went
fishing this afternoon after our 4-H trap shooting practice.
We were on the water from about 3:30 PM till 5:00 PM, and caught six
largemouth bass. This was our first fishing activity for the new year,
and it was great to get out on the water. |
 |
I started with green pumpkin, then water melon and finally blue and
black
Yamamoto, 5-inch Senko worms, and got three bites and one small fish
during the first 45-minutes.

I
switched to a green pumpkin colored sweet beaver by Reaction Innovation,
and that is what caught three larger bass. I think that jigs would
have worked
well today. Our best fishing was the sunny, southeast side of the
pond, along
the dam face, fishing from the steep slopes, up toward the shoreline. |
 |
Jeb used a small BooYah Pond Magic spinnerbait with a white and
chartreuse skirt,
which caught his two fish. Jeb made a point to slow his
retrieve, which I think
helped his presentation.

It
was fun to get out on the water. I'm looking forward to trying several
new lures
and soft plastics that I recently purchased. I'd say from here on out,
each upcoming spell of warm weather will constitutes pre-pre-spawn and the
fish are just beginning
to recognize that the day lengths are getting longer and water temperatures
are
getting up just enough for the fish to start shaking off winter lethargy. |
I didn't get dark today until 6:30 PM and it's only seven more days
until Daylight Savings Time starts, which means that beginning next weekend,
it won't get dark until 7:30 PM! Yee Haw.
