Pond Fishing

Steve and I went to
a local, private
pond and fished from
noon till 2:00 PM.
But first I had a
chance to see two of
his otterhounds, a
rare breed in the
United States.
Steve's wife is a
veterinarian in
Olney/Sandy Spring.
The dog (he has
several) in this
photo is a previous
winner of the
coveted Westminster
Dog Show, Best
In Breed.
The dog was huge and
had both hound dog
ears and hound dog
bark. They are
web-footed and were
originally used to
hunt otters, thereby
protecting
fisheries.
Steve Kolbe is
the
play-by-play,
voice of the
Washington
Capitals, and
has been for the
last 11-years.
Once the season
ends each year,
he then puts on
his professional
tournament
fisherman's hat
and works the
central
east-coast FLW
tour circuit.
We only caught
one largemouth
bass each, with
both being
caught on 5-inch
green pumpkin
Senko worms.
The fish were
definitely
pre-spawn and
found in deeper
water, staging
near the
shallows.
Although very
active on the
strike, both the
fish and water
temperature was
cold.
Red maple is in
flower and we
could hear frogs
calling from the
marsh areas.
We saw wood
duck, mallard,
geese and
kingfishers.
