What's
in Flower Today?
3/11/08 Mark Burchick
Molly and I performed
environ
mental
field studies today in the Foundry
Branch
and Battery Kemble Run stream
valley, in Washington, DC.
While working I made a
point to
photograph any flowering plants that
I observed while in the woods, and
thought that you would enjoy seeing
them too.
Yellow
crocus.
Yellow daffodil.
Double-file
viburnum
beginning to
leaf-out.
Mahonia.
Lesser
celandine.
Rebel looking
for deer, but
looking in the
wrong direction
as the deer
slink behind
him.
Early saxifrage.
Close-up of
early saxifrage.
Three-winged
fruit capsules
of wild yam.
Light purple
crocus.
We observed vinca,
forsythia, tulip, speedwell and
snowdrops also in flower, and
saw avens,
aster, Dutchman breeches, spring
beauty, cut-leaf toothwort,
chickweed
and cleavers
coming into pre-flower vegetation.
