SUMMER FISHING
'06
Here are some
great fishing tips, stories, and photos.
Covers summer '06. Maryland region
and more...
Hook,
Sinker, Line 7/30/06 Mark Burchick
Mark, Jeb and I took
Mr. Kevin, Kevin
Lancaster and Sam
Littmann fishing
today. Jeb and Sam
fished with me, and
Mark fished with the
Lancaster's. Jeb
started with a
spinnerbait but
switched over to
live worms, and both
boys had a good day
on the water.
Having only
caught a few
chain pickerel
in my entire
life, I caught
four today, all
in entirely
different areas.
With a
'fish-on,' these
guys really
fight
aggressively.
Most casts in
toward bank
cover and shade
produced a
strike for the
boys. It's
always fun to
watch a bobber
go under and the
feel of a fish
on an
ultra-light
rod.
As you know,
last week I
caught the
biggest
largemouth of my
life. It was
6.4-pounds and
23-inches long.
Today in the
same reach of
water, I caught
a 4.5-pound,
22-inch bass! In
this photo, he's
fresh out of the
net and is being
weighed-in.
I cast in to a
debris pile of
submerged logs
that was a
former bank den
of a beaver, and
this
fish crashed my
Booyah
spinnerbait
immediately as
it hit the
water.
Jeb was my
net-man and he
helped me
wrestle him in
to the boat. It
was an exciting
catch, and I
worked that fish
carefully, to
make sure that
I'd get him into
the boat. Thank
God for a good
hook set!
Mr. Kevin, Kevin
and Mark were
nearby and were
able to watch
the wrestle. I
handed the fish
over to Mark so
that he could
enjoy the
'close-and-personal'
of a
semi-behemoth
bucket-mouth.
This is why
people fish!
It was fun to
watch Jeb reel
in several fish
on the day, and
go through the
sequence of
working the fish
to the boat,
admiration,
inspection,
unhooking,
photo-op and
release.
A
pickerel-fest!
I trust the
Lancaster's had
a good day. It
was in the mid
90's and we were
off the water by
noon, to avoid
the oppressive
heat of the
afternoon.
Jeb and Sam
kept reeling in
small but lively
bluegill and
bass. You can't
loose with worms
on bobbers.
