Fishing
in Howard County, MD 8/5/06 Mark
Burchick
I'm taking off the majority
of the week, so we
intend to get in some
fishing time too.
Saturday afternoon
was sunny, in the
low 90's, lower
humidity and a bit
of a breeze. I
pulled this lively
one-pounder
(13-inches long, 1.1
lbs.) out of a
submerged brush
pile, using a Jimmy
Houston Terminator
spinnerbait.
This nice lunker
weighed-in at
2.2-pounds and
16-inches. Did
you know that
there is a
direct
correlation between
largemouth bass
length and
weight? I have a
stick-on ruler
scale in my boat
from Bass Pro
Shop, that when
you measure the
bass, it will
then tell you
the weight. I
also have a very
accurate
electronic fish
scale from
Rapala.
Here's Jeb
holding Mr.
Lunker, which he
then released
back into the
water.
We used a
Blakemore
Roadrunner
(that's what Jeb
got his black
crappie on),
Terminator
spinnerbait,
Heddon Zara
Spook Sway-Back,
Hula Popper and
a Rapala
crankbait. It
was getting late
and we had to
get back to the
Fair, when I was
just rigging up
a Zoom soft
plastic, green
pumpkin,
ultravibe speed
craw. I've got
him rigged for
our next day
out.
It's Howard County Fair
week and all of our
animals are up at the
Fairgrounds.
With four boys active in
4-H, we will be at the
Fair pretty much all
week.
