Better Than Last Year!
HOWARD COUNTY FAIR PHOTO CONTEST
All of my four boys are active in 4-H and they all have shown livestock projects
at the County Fair. Joshua in particular, has had major success with swine
and sheep. We have done every manner of animal less beef and dairy cattle.
Seeing as how we
are at the Fairgrounds every day during Fair week, I've taken to entering garden
vegetables,
flowers and photographs in the adult, open class categories. This year, for the
second year, I've entered 14 photographs in 15 categories at the Howard
County Fair. With over 300
photographs entered for adult, open class (non 4-H), I took first, second and
fifth, winning in the Historic Howard County Wild Animals and Miscellaneous
categories.
Here are two of
my three photographs that won:
 |
Emerging Luna Moth Drying It's Wings |

 |
Blue Angels, Shock & Awe |
Never question the judges. The Champions in
each category all had an 'artsy'
flare to their photo composition/subject. My photos seem to be more technical
and direct
in nature. Photos by others that I thought were awesome did not even receive
mention. The Best
in Show, Grand Champion was a black and white photo of a ballerina hand dancer,
with a
three-stop motion denoting the fluid movement of the hand. Last year, for
the first time, I
entered ten photos, all of which were disqualified because I did not print
them to fill the
mandatory 8 1/2 x 11-inch size. This year I matted all of my photos, last
year I placed
them on sticky-back foam board stock. I'm learning how to play the game.
