Fetterbush, also
known as swamp
sweetbells or
Leucothoe
were in peak
flower and the
southern cross
vine was coming
into bloom.
Bald cypress
line all of
the
shoreline
and as you
look into
the swampy
woods you
can see the
many cypress
knees and
hummocks.
We tried to
ford a
blow-down on
Corkers
Creek
because the
area
upstream
receives no
fishing
pressure and
is
inaccessible,
other than
by boat.
The creek
proper is
very deep
and even at
low tide
averages
12-feet
deep. Dave
and Frank
are standing
on the tree
and the
engine and
batteries
proved too
heavy to
negotiate
the
push-over.
More basking
turtles.
The pink
hues of
swamp azalea
were
seen frequently
along the
stream banks
and were
being
visited by
bees,
swallowtail
and other
insects.

(our
next

fishing
adventure).

The
stickpin
minnows
were a
fun
topwater
lure.
As
twilight
fell I
switched
to a
1-foot
long
floating
snake
lure,
which
got one
hit. I
should
have
tried it
earlier
and seen
if I
could
have
taken a
lunker
bass.
The
barred
owls
were
singing
up a
storm,
"who
cooks,
who
cooks
for you
all, or
who's
awake,
me too."
We
motored
into
Shad
Landing
at 8:30
PM and
looked
forward
to
getting
some
dinner
in
Salisbury
as we
drive
back to
the
western
shore.
