Afternoon Fishing 10/28/06
Mark Burchick
It was a windy, brisk
day, with intermittent
rain and sun. Seeing as
how Mike and I washed
and waxed my truck
today, that pretty much
guaranteed that it would
rain, at least a little.
Mark took first
strike with a Jimmy
Houston Terminator
'bleeding' spinner
bait. He stayed with
that bait all day
and caught four bass
on the late
afternoon.
Typically we fish
from a jon-boat more
than from the shore,
but the shore has
its benefits.
Working a lure
uphill (casting from
the shore out to
open water) can
'pull out' the bass
and they feel as if
they are pushing the
lure into smaller
and smaller water
with no escape
route. They then
strike the lure into
the bank, right in
front of us. How
cool. It happened
twice today!
All but one of
Mark's fish were in
the two-pound range.
I had good luck
using a Rick Clunn
Trickster spinner
bait, with twin
long-drop blades.
That spinnerbait
caught four
largemouth also.
We worked all of our
favorite spots along
the pond shoreline.
The high winds were
really stripping the
trees of leaves.
Ok, we are cold and
hungry and the sun
is setting. My boys
and I have had many
a day of fishing
with little to no
action. Its nice to
have such a great
catch, with
sustained winds,
sometimes up to
35-mph. Why is it
that every side of
the pond felt like
the wind was in our
face?
