Jeb and I
fished both late yesterday afternoon (Highland, with Dan Betz)
and this evening
(Clarksville). Yesterday it was warm and beautiful.
I caught one fish on a Senko
worm, up under bank cover and Jeb
worked
a crankbait in open water. We fished from around 4:30 till
around 5:45 pm, at
which time it was completely dark. We saw wave
after wave of resident geese and
as it got dark we heard several shots,
as it was Youth Deer Hunt Day for slug
shotgun.

We made up
for catching squat yesterday and caught four fish each
this evening. It was raining, cold and breezy. Jeb caught bass on a
Senko worm
and Blakemore Roadrunner. I caught bass on a Terminator spinnerbait, and swapped
out after I got a good few bumps but no strikes. My first thought was to put on
a trailer hook and/or upsize.

I switched
to a Chatterbait http://www.chatterbait.com/ and I have
two made by BooYah and
two made by Chatterbait. Mark has used them,
but this was my first time. The lure is like an in-line spinner with a split
grub tail and flat 'clacking' blade. It makes a distinct vibration in the water,
and transmits up the rod with an obvious rhythm. When a fish
hits the cadence breaks and you set the hook.

I caught
three fish in the dark on the Chatterbait, with the last fish
being
a respectable three-pound getting into the Lunkerville range.
Needless
to say, I'll be using this lure more often. |

Great way to
top off the evening. It's dark, we're cold and wet.
Let's get to the truck, turn up the heat and head home for dinner.
