VETERANS DAY Jeb Catches First
Fish Ever Using Rod & Reel at
the Burchick Residence
Clarksville, MD
I was working in the
back field mowing
and putting out corn
and setting up our
motion detector
camera for deer. Jeb
was walking one of
our two creeks and
noticed bluegill in
a deep pool. He went
to the house and got
an ultra-light and
rigged it with a
small Blakemore
Roadrunner.
After about five-minutes he
caught a shiner. We have
dace, shiner, chub and
minnow, and an occasional
bluegill or bass that may
have escaped from local
ponds upstream. With an
ultralight and four-pound
test Jeb actually had a
gamey retrieve!
A close-up of the shiner
and roadrunner lure.
Talk about sight fishing
in a piedmont stream.
Jeb actually worked
several deep undercuts,
pools root wads and
downed wood in search of
more fish, but nobody
was biting. We have both
crayfish and minnow
traps and have caught
tons of both for
fishing, and we always
see the endemics when we
are down at the creek,
but never caught one on
a hook. How cool!
