Evening
Pond Fishing Howard County, MD
11/10/06 Mark Burchick
Mark and I got on the
pond with about an hour
of daylight left. I
started with a
spinnerbait, switched to
a Senko worm and worked
over half of the pond
shore line. I did catch
a small bass on the
Terminator spinnerbait
right up on the bank.
Mark started with a YUM
soft plastic buzzfrog
and neither of us were
doing very well, not
even a hit other than
the one junior bass.
Mark did see a school of
black crappie near the
shoreline but they
spooked as he got
closer. It got up to
72-degrees today!
The sun had set and
it was getting dark
and I switched to a
Strike King Pop'n
Grass Frog, with a
trailer/stinger
hook. Mark switched
over to a Lucky
Craft Live Pointer
shad hardbait (with
a flexible swimming
tail). We both
walked into a new
section of water
with the remains of
lily pads. That was
the ticket! Mark and
I both nailed
handsome bass within
a few minutes of
each other.
Both strikes were
aggressive topwater
hits, and it don't
get any better than
that!
Mark was listening
to 'Nobody Else' by
the Los Lonely Boys
on his iPod right at
the time of his hit.
I just happened to
be watching his cast
and the fish hit
just as the lure
landed right into
the center of some
lily pads. The fish
broke water twice
and was flailing all
over the place. We
have commented to
each other that a
topwater hit, when
it works, is better
than a good few fish
on other lure types.
Quality over
quantity! Mark's
fish was larger,
getting toward
three-pounds and
mine was a healthy
two-pound ounce
something. Nice way
to start the
Veteran's Day
weekend. Remember to
fly your flag!
