SHOOTING SPORTS
Here are some excellent photos, tips,
and exclusive stories from shooting sports
events and experts in the Maryland area...
Sporting
Clays Practice Prince George's
Trap Range Maryland 3/4/07
Mark Burchick
It was windy and
cold today, but
that did not
stop the 4-H Gun
Club. We all
shot a round of
50 shells at the
various sporting
clays stations
through the
woods.
We had 18
shooters
today, so we
broke into
two groups.
One of the
more
interesting
presentations
today were
incoming
targets that
rose over a
hill and
skimmed just
above the
grass line.
We had just
finished the
bouncing
rabbits
station.
At this
station we
had a target
presentation
where the
clay turns
broadside on
its high
flying,
arching
descent.
We had a
station
where we
call pull
only once
and have to
reload,
shooting
seven shells
at seven
targets in
rapid
succession.
We had to
reload fast,
on the fly.
This
sporting
clays
practice is
going to
help us be
quite
competitive
for our
upcoming 4-H
State
competition,
to be held
two weeks
from now, at
the PG
Range,
Saturday
March 17,
2007
Looking at
our score
card, Matt
got three in
a row and
then at
another
station two
in a row,
then also,
and handful
of singles.
Mark Mason,
today's high
scorer, had
three runs
of five
each. I
understand
that both
Gabe and
Chris scored
very well
too.
Everyone
including
Kevin,
enjoyed the
springing
teal
station,
with a
fast-moving
overhead
clay from
behind,
followed by
a nearly
vertical,
high rise
'springing
teal.'
This station
was wrapped
in camo (Miscanthus,
aka plume
grass). Two
weeks to go
and as a
club, we
have now had
a chance to
practice
skeet and
sporting
clays. We
are all
fluent with
trap and we
will have a
large club
representation
at the
upcoming
State
tournament.
