Winter
Pond Fishing Howard County, MD 3/31/07
Mark Burchick
Mark & Jeb went fishing
with Mike and Jonathan
Valencourt, to our
neighbors pond. The
temperature was
55-degrees and mostly
cloudy. We all started
by hoping to land a good
few bass, but to no
avail. We used a
chatterbait, jig & pig,
roadrunner and tube.
Bluegill are one of
several types of
sunfish or bream,
and have a light
blue edge on the
gill cover. The
'ear' is pure black
and there is a black
blotch at the rear
of the dorsal fin.
The sides are
brownish-gold with a
purple sheen. The
male's breast is
copper colored, and
the female's is
yellowish.
After a half hour
and no fish, the
boys changed over to
Berkley Powerbait
Trout Worms and
mosquito hooks. The
men switched to
5-inch Senko worms
for a slow
presentation.
We caught one
2-pound bass and
several bluegill.
The boys were
lighting-up on
frisky bluegill, and
it sure beats
getting skunked on
the pond.
